I am directed by the Asst Comr to inform you that Bt Maj A.W. Bolenius V.R.C. has been appointed Sub Asst Comr for the Counties embraced within the Military District of Greensboro, with Hd Qrs at Greensboro.  Caswell and Alamance Counties being a portion of that District you will hereafter transmit all business thro' Maj Bolenius.

I have the honor to request that letters of appointment be issued to the following named persons, as clerks in this office -  [[Footnote 1]] [[underlined]] John H. Archdeacon [[/underlined]] to be Chief Clerk at $125 per month,  [[?sic]] [[underlined]] Eastmond [[/underlined]] appointed Agent.  [[underlined]] Benj Durffee [[/underlined]] to be Asst Clerk at $100 per month [[sic?]] [[underlined]] Archdeacon [[/underlined]] promoted - both appointments to date June 1st 1867.

Sir

In answer to the application of Mr E.D. Cheney Secy &c N.E. Br Freedmens Union Commission of May 29th 1867 relative to the furnishing of transportation to teachers returning to their homes, I am directed by the Asst Commissioner to say that transportation will be furnished to teachers serving under the auspices of the various benevolent associations upon the following conditions viz
1st  That the persons applying have been actually employed as teachers and specifically as such
2nd  That they have performed their contracts and have been serving in the field at least six (6) months
