Sir:
  I have the honor to submit my report of the Department under my charge for the month of July, 1883.
  No accessions to the collections under my immediate care were received during the month that were sufficiently identified to justify an entry in the Catalogue.
  One pipe, alleged to have been found in a mound on the coast of the Gulf of Mexico, was received - but as I was in doubt as to the propriety of entering it as such, it has been submitted for your personal inspection.
  A number of interesting directly pertaining to the collections of modern Art & Industries and Historical Relics have been received and, in accordance with instructions, stood until Mr Goode's return.
  A small but fairly represented exhibit of Alaskan ethnology, consisting of eight cases and one full-sized Kyak, has been prepared and forwarded to the Southern Exposition at Louisville. These specimens are all substantially
