Transcription Notes:
This seems to be Arakamchechen Island (just an older/variant spelling), in the Bering Sea. Currently politically Russia, in Chukotka Autonomous Okrug. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arakamchechen_Island. I'm new to doing these so did not make changes other than this note, but shouldn't this be listed as Russia? Also, there are 2 comprehensive dictionaries for Alaska place names, a 1902 edition and a 1967 edition, and this name does not appear in either, arguing again for Russia (- Felicia Pickering) S. Eichhorn - See: http://collections.nmnh.si.edu/search/botany/?irn=10823475. This is another collection from the same collector and same island that places it in Alaska. I chose Multiple Countries initially because we have examples of the same island being in two different countries. Unless you definitively know that it is in Russia, then I suggest we stick with 'Multiple Countries'. Geonames, Wikipedia, and Google Maps do not reference the island. z@nellie - Russia Behring Straits http://plants.jstor.org/stable/history/10.5555/al.ap.specimen.gh00057160 S. Eichhorn - A Google search places Arakamtchetchene Island in the Behring Straits in both Russia and United States (Alaska) for several plant collections.
