The Chairman then related his negotiations with the Viking Fund, Inc., the result of which was the grant to the Museum of $1,000.00 to be used for publication work. Upon motion by Mr. Williams and seconded by Mr. Keppler, the Director was directed to prepare a suitable resolution on behalf of the Trustees, expressing to the Viking Fund, Inc., the appreciation of the Trustees for this grant.

The Chairman then announced the gift of $25,000.00 by Mr. Archer M. Huntington, a Trustee of the Museum, and the following letter of appreciation was sent him:

Mr. Archer M. Huntington
One East 89th Street
New York City

Dear Mr. Huntington:

The Trustees of the Museum of the American Indian wish to indicate their appreciation of the splendid gift of $25,000. which came with your letter of December 3rd, not only because of its money value but because of the encouragement it gives them in facing the problem of maintaining the Museum, and the feeling that you approve of their course. Under present conditions it is difficult to increase the resources of a Museum whose work seems so remote from the conduct of the war; but we believe that the preservation of the relics of our indigenous cultures is an important part of the maintenance of our civilization, for which we are now fighting this war.

With thanks and best wishes for all the Trustees, in which of course I join.

Yours truly,

George G. Heye
