low & trees small, Antoine Houle took ten days to Ft Youkon & the boss is not back yet nothing to eat there, the Indians say. Get there about half past seven, go across a little slough & camp. Buy 28 fish for a leaf of tobacco apiece, & 6 more for three pipes. There are four or five men a boy or two & five women. They are much better looking Indians than those below & better dressed. They have many dogs, and a great [[?]] of fish halfdried in the sun the men wear the same moose skin parki as the women but shorter, all wear beads & many of them English clothing, leggins &c. They have quite a number of black bear skins. The Indians who accompanied us up, are staying with them.
