They then rejoined the others at Elk Camp and went down with them to Trinidad & the mouth of Klamath. taking the first animals to the latter place [the Oregonians had preceded them to Trinidad- via Nordheimer's inf]
  After the burning of the Weitspek ranches he moved to the mouth of Salmon & while the miners dug there went back to Trinidad for provision, when news from the Salmon river was received as before mentioned.
  Van Dusen, of Greggs party was the first to explore the Klamath, in the spring of 1850, in May. They crossed below Serragoin & turned off below the forks. His trail is the one still known as the Serragoin trail He lost his animals by the Indians Dancing Bill and Dad Wilson were with him. Van Dusen had returned from Sonoma with the Kelsey party. He raised a second train of animals after the loss of the first, probably at the springs & came down the Trinity was Captain of the Company that burnt the Weitspek ranches. Taggart paced back & forward to Salmon during the fall of 1850. In the Spring of 1851 he took the first train up the Klamath of provisions & mining, located Wingates and

Wood's bars and mined & packed on [[strikethrough]]Sal [[/strikethrough]] Klamath during the summer of 1851 and at Happy Camp during the winter.
   The mountain Indians between the coast and the Klamath river have desolated the Shaste part of the Klamath There are not more than 500 man woman & child left. The largest settlement is at Horse shoe bend between the two crossings. they have been very numerous- Sickness & war among themselves have been other causes of their decrease.
