Prof SF Baird

Director &c Sir

The work of the Ethnological Section for March has consisted chiefly on continuing the record of Mr Nelson's Alaska Collections, which is so far completed that little remains to be done except entering a few articles which are in the process of poisoning.

All incidental collections have likewise been attended to, leaving this kind of work done up to date.

A good deal of labor has been bestowed by Dr Palmer & myself, in restoring the Earthenware vessels collected by him in Tennessee and Arkansas. Whilst these are far from being completed time may be found at intervals without interrupting other work.

As Mr Nelson's collection, so far as I am concerned, may be regarded as practically disposed of, and being very bulky and liable to depredation, it is of great importance that some order be taken for its future preservation.

Respectfully

E Foreman
