Received from a Dear friend at home as a New Year present at Home.  The morning cool after the middle of the Day, the sun came out & it was pleasant on the porches around the Hospital.  My wounds still rapidly healing & hope to be able in a few days to go down stairs
Shermans Band played some fine airs in the evening in the town  We stood on the porch & listened to the music a change in the Hospital a coloured Ward Master

The morning fair the sun came out Brightly & it was quite warm out of Doors. though a fire in the house was very agreeable.  Inspection of the ward by an officer from the city of Washington or so expected to see everything in good order At 4 PM 3 men out of a larger number captured by Sherman during his march through Georgia & Brought to Beaufer  Brought to this ward sick
