Morning clear & Beautiful a Report received that a battle had been fought in NC between the forces of Schofield & the Rebel Genl Bragg 
Bragg defeated with a heavy loss. By this Fight a junction was made between the Armies of Sherman & Schofield
taken a walk to town Met [[Sutter?]] Johnson & heard from the Regt went to the Post office received two Letters one from Sergt Maj Trotter & one from Corprl. McFarlin written a Letter to cousin James Freeman

Raining hard though the weather pleasant all Quiet around the Hospital written a Letter to Miss ^[[S.E.A.]] Miss D.A.W. 
Mr [[J.I.W.?]] cousin Andrew G B Lewis Corprl McFarlin, in the afternoon some sick came to the Hospital continued the Day throughout to Rain hard no news of importance from the front though it was gravely reported that a portion of Genl. Sherman's Army occupied Goldsboro N.C. two Papers the Savannah Herald & new South Sent to Miss S.E.A.
