On Wednesday, Dr. Peale and I took a walk across the hills to Spring Canon which enters the mountains about three miles east of camp. July Fourth, The Glorious Yankee Doodle Day was hardly recognizable. Stayed in Camp most of the day. The cannon at the fort were fired at 11 o'clock and again at sunset. I made sketches in color of Jno Raymond, Mr. Savage and Dr.Peale. Early on Friday morning I started with Bennet to the Mountains east of Bridger Peak for a days hunt.
