Mr. A. Chatain
Chicago. 8 Dec. 1921
-3-

If you personally are as fond of this painting as we are, you might show the photo to Mr. Stout and I might send you the painting, or my son might take it personally to Chicago and show it to you. We ask for it $20.000 which is extremely low a price as it is, I repeat, one of the finest pictures one can think of. The background is green and the gentleman is entirely dressed up in black; it is painted on wood.

I don't dare write directly to Mr. Stout about it because I don't know how he would take it, and I therefore ask you to speak to him about it if you are of my opinion.

As I told you, I am sailing on December 14th, but my son Germain is staying in New York and you can get in touch with him. He is aware of my ideas as we have talked together about it in full details and he agrees with me on all these points.

Looking forward to hearing from you soon,
Yours sincerely,
