It may interest you to know that Mr. Breck formerly of the Boston Museum, and now Director of the Minneapolis Institute of Art, has made strenuous efforts to obtain from the Trustees of his Museum permission to purchase it. Unfortunately he could not reach my price and I was obliged to refuse the offer he made me. I should have been very happy to see it go to that Museum, as Mr. Breck is making every effort to make it one of the first order: I fear that he will have trouble in succeeding in doing so if his Trustees do not know when it is to their advantage to spend a large amount.
As it is my intention to sail for Europe this coming Thursday, I hope you will make a special effort to come before that date, as I want to have the pleasure of showing you this great work of art myself.
With very kind regards, pray believe me,
          Most sincerely yours,
