11. GIVE A LIST OF THE NEW GENERA AND SUBGENERA, SPECIES AND SUBSPECIES DESCRIBED IN THE PAPERS REFERRED TO IN YOUR BIBLIOGRAPHY([[underline]]e.g[[/underline]]., [[underline]]PLAGIOGRAMMUS HOPKINSII[[/underline]]. T.H.BEAN, MONTEREY, CAL., [[UNDERLINE]]PROC.US.NAT.MUS[[/UNDERLINE]]., XVI, NO. 967, FEB. 10, 1893, p. 699, FIG. 15). IF THE TYPE SPECIMEN IS NOT IN THE NATIONAL MUSEUM, THAT FACT SHOULD BE INDICATED BY THE USE OF AN ASTERISK.

The Curator of the Department of Ethnology in the United States National Museum has endeavored, for some years, to insist upon the application and methods of natural history and the description of Ethnographic specimens. It is his opinion that objects connected with human activities may be arranged into families, genera, species and varieties deriving their substance, and form , and function from natural resources, exigencies and climates. It seems to be true almost, in spite of the question of race, that in certain regions typical arts have come to be in vogue to such an extent that a skilled curator is able to say, with regard to a specimen, that it belongs to this or that class according to its structure, and that it belongs to a certain definite culture area by reason of its material, its form, and practically its refined ornamentations and accessories.

The Curator in his studies upon transportation during the Fiscal year 1895 –'96 has sought to establish certain definite type forms of snow-goggles, foot clothing, snowshoes, and carrying devices for land transportation and for the primitive carriage of persons. In previous papers he has, successfully, established type forms of basketry, throwing-sticks, bows and arrows and of children's cradles. A detailed list of each one of these types
