74 a bird screaming as if a small bird was being hurt. I had seen some white throated sparrows near by and immediately thought of shrikes. I went out cautiously and saw it fly away but it was so dark I could not see. I went on and then heard the noise again and on moving back saw it was a bluejay. went I got to town I heard an owl singing to himself [[?]] [[end page]] [[start page]] 75 in long trembling Hoo-oo-oo note. Oct. 29, Sunday Went down to the ditch this morning. Saw some gold-finches calling to each other with plaintive [[underlined]] clearie clearie wheet wheet [[/underlined]]. They had on thier winter suits. Heard the Prairie Horned Lark giving his creaking song of [[underlined]] kip kip kip kip le kip le kip le kip [[/underlined]]. Heard a junco give a note like the the kissing note of the thrasher.
