Dec. 16, Saturday. 

Was out in the country today noticed flocks of from 10 to 50 English Sparrows at nearly every farmhouse. They were feeding on pig weed and other seeds which appeared above the snow as I approached they would fly up on a barn or in a tree. 

Saw a Red-Headed Woodpecker sunning himself on a tree. He went on the other side when I came

Dec. 17, Sunday. 

Pine Siskins are common every where I see them flying around singly or in pairs never in a flock. 

Dec. 19, Tuesday
I have not heard the notes of a Praire Horned Lark for about a month. The winter thus far has been mild and open. In October they were quite abundant. In the morning I could hear them; now they have disappeared.
