Tuskegee Institute,Ala.

Dear Dr. Patterson,

It is with deep regret that I have read of your resignation as president of Tuskegee Institute. While this will be a great loss to Tuskegee and Alabama, but mostly to the whole South at this particular time while we are in the throes of legislation anent segregation I feel sure that a Divine guidance will enable you to continue your relationship with Tuskegee and Alabama and perhaps in a more loftly way than heretofore.

I have long delayed in saying to you what an excellent job you did in Africa and i hope that many of our British friends have had an opportunity to read your report.

Senator Pinson will feel your loss to us keenly. I know of no one more deeply interested in the development of Negro educa-tion than he.

With kindest regards and wishing for you and your family every good. I am,

Most sincerely yours,
