Tuskegee Institute ------ Tuskegee Institute Alabama OFFICE OF THE DIRECTOR RURAL LIFE COUNCIL March 21, 1953 My dear Doctor Patterson, I cannot delay longer in getting this note to you, in appreciation of the recent announcement of your becoming director of the Phelps-Stokes Fund. Although I have heard so many comments of sadness over your leaving Tuskegee that I am certain to be alone, my own emotions are those of purest delight! It is not, of course, that Tuskegee needs you less, we must all grant, but that the Phelps-Stokes, New York, and the people of Africa so very much need you more. In this new work, therefore, which you now with such evident stature will assume, I wish you every joy, every personal and professional reward. With best thoughts also to Mrs. Patterson, I remain, Every sincerely, [[signature]] Manet Fowler manet fowler Dr. F.D. Patterson, President Tuskegee Institute, Alabama
