Dr. F.D. Patterson, President
Tuskegee Institute
Tuskegee Institute, Alabama

Dear Dr. Patterson:

I received your letter of March 16, 1953, and I am very happy to hear from you and to know that you and the family are doing very nicely.

Birmingham is very shocked to read of your resignation, and we at large feel that we will not find anyone to replace such a capable person as you. I did not realize that you were so well-loved around this neighborhood until the resignation. I received as many telephone calls asking about your resignation as I received in inquiry of my accident.

I know we will miss you very much, but I am happy just knowing that you and your family are going to be very happy on your new job. Hello to Catherine and Little Pat.

Now, concerning the College Fund Drive, we are doing very nicely; we had one committee meeting since my accident, and we will have another Thursday night. We are making plans for the drive by organizing the city and getting solicitors for each division. The committee is still very geared up, and we feel that we are going to do a nice job in this campaign.

Mr. Ware and Mrs. Campbell have worked energetically, and I feel that they are going to add much to the campaign this year.

We are looking forward to your visit very soon and will appreciate any suggestions you make. I hope this will be our very best year.

Yours sincerely,
