Dr. F.D. Patterson,
Tuskegee Institute, Ala.

Dear Dr. Patterson:

Somehow, a gloom of sadness was cast over us when we read of your resignation at Tuskegee. To say that we sincerely regret that it has become necessary for you to make a change in your administration, does not by any means express the depth of our sorrow.

Truly, you have served well and long and it will be difficult to secure someone to assume the responsibility as President.

Personally, we want you to know how grateful we are for your kindness and thoughtfulness. You have encouraged us in our struggle to help bring up the [[masses?]] in our rural areas.
