President F. D. Patterson
Tuskegee Institute
Tuskegee Institute, Alabama

Dear President Patterson:

The news that you are resigning from Tuskegee is really bad news. You have done such an outstanding job at Tuskegee as the successor to Mr. Washington and Dr. Moton that all of your friends will be sincerely reluctant to see you leave. Is this decision of yours final? We sincerely hope not. Should you go, however, to the Phelps-Stokes Fund, you carry with you the sincere regard and affection of all of us who have worked with you in the United Negro College Fund. Your leadership in that Fund has been of a high order and has won for you the grateful appreciation of all of us in the Fund.

This is just a letter to say that wherever you go--whether you remain at Tuskegee or go to the Phelps-Stokes Fund--you have our sincere appreciation for the work which you have already done and for the work which you will do in the coming years.

This brings also to Mrs. Patterson from Mrs. Jones and me our sincere well wishes.

Sincerely yours,
[[signed]]
David D. Jones
