Dr. F. D. Patterson, President
Tuskegee Institute
Tuskegee, Alabama

Dear Doctor Patterson:

Mr. Cass tells me that you have resigned as President of Tuskegee to become Educational Director of the Phelps-Stokes Fund. I am not a little surprised at learning of your retirement from Tuskegee as we have all thought of you as being so admirably equipped for your duties there and throughout your administration we all feel that you have made such a fine record for yourself. You have faced the many problems connected with the growth and development of the Institute with courage and confidence, and it will be no easy task which face the Trustees to find your successor.

We have greatly enjoyed the privilege of working with you, and Mr. Cass has repeatedly spoken to me about the pleasure and inspiration he has found in discussing fiscal and other problems with you and of how much he has admired your understanding of such problems and decisions reached with respect to them. He will, I am sure, miss you very much.

Needless to say, our hearty good wishes go with you as you assume your new post and we hope and believe that you will find your new work interesting and constructive.

With my personal warm regards and best wishes, I am

Sincerely yours,
