April 1, 1953

Dr. F. D. Patterson, President
Tuskegee Institute
Tuskegee, Alabama

My dear Dr. Patterson:

On behalf of Shaw University, as well as of myself, personally, I am writing to congratulate you upon your appointment as president of the Phelps-Stokes fund. We feel sure that you will bring to the Fund the same executive ability which has meant so much to the growth and development of Tuskegee Institute under you administration.

We are pleased to note, however, that although you are leaving Tuskegee, you will remain as the president of the United Negro College Fund. This fact, I am sure, was quite heartening to all of the thirty-one member colleges.

With best wishes to you and Mrs. Patterson, I am

Sincerely yours,
