Dr. Frederick D. Patterson, President
Tuskegee Institute, Ala.

Dear Fred:-

Your resignation as President of Tuskegee Institute came as a tremendous surprise to all. I regret that you must leave – I remember the day when the announcement of your appointment as President broke with much emphasis being placed on your youth, all of which created speculations from educators of many years of experience. But you accepted the high honor with a challenge and have lived up to the principles and traditions of your predecessors and at the same time keeping abreast with modern trends of education and administration, thus leaving a rich heritage for your successor.

I am proud of you as a former classmate and friend and in all sincerity I wish for you, success and happiness in your new endeavor, for certainly Phelps-Stokes Fund is fortunate in selecting a man of your caliber.

Extend to your wife my very best wishes.

Sincerely,
