Dr. F. D. Patterson, President
Tuskegee Institute
Tuskegee Institute, Alabama

Dear Dr. Patterson:

It was a most enjoyable trip visiting the Institute again. The progressive efforts being instituted for the benefit of the students in particular and the region at large are encouraging.

Frankly, I was saddened and surprise to learn of your leaving the school as so many things have been accomplished and many things still have to be accomplished. We all appreciate the progress made under your leaders hip. I sincerely trust that you will be as successfull in your new efforts.

Thank you for the opportunity of sharing some of the things on our minds with the faculty and the students. Time however was so short that we were unable to cover ground involving the area od the work day world in the professional practice of architecture and design engineering as relates to the construction industry. Fortunately for me I have been integrated into the profession in this area, I believe as an equal. I have been delegated some responsibilities in connection with design work on construction phases of the Atomic Energy Program which is of extreme value in terms of the acquisition of design practices in one of the largest offices in the country. As I am the only Negro registered as an Architect and Also as an Engineer (Civil), this fact has helped materially in this integration process. My work places me in intimate contact with several hundred engineers and Architects.

We trust that our own office (White & Griffin) will cooperate with your Mr. J nes in connection with the internship program beginning possibly with the summer quarter. Our work is of a varied nature not found in Negro offices as a deal of the work is in connection with commercial and industrial projects and work as found in a large city. I will keep in contact with Mr. Jones and his faculty members.

Again we thank you for the opportunity of once more visiting Tuskegee and being of some service.

Sincerely yours,
