YOUNG PUBLISHER JOURNAL AND GUIDE [[IN A DIAMOND]] MEMBER AUDIT BUREAU OF CIRCULATIONS [[/IN A DIAMOND]] TELEPHONE 53686 PUBLISHED WEEKLY BY THE GUIDE PUBLISHING COMPANY, INC. 719 EAST OLNEY ROAD NORFOLK 1, VIRGINIA [[/preprinted]] March 14, 1953 Dr. F.D. Patterson President, TUSKEGEE INSTITUTE Tuskegee Institute, Alabama Dear Dr. Patterson: I learned with regret through a telegram from Mr. Charles H. Bynum and press release of your resignation as president of Tuskegee Institute, effective June 1st. The telegram and press release noted that you would succeed Dr. Tobias as director of the Phelps-Stokes Fund. No doubt in this position and as president of the United Negro College Fund you will be in a strategic position to do more for Negro colleges as a collective educational [[vertical line]] factor. However, you have done so well at Tuskegee that your friends, I am sure, will view with no little sadness your departure from that responsibility. With every good wish, Yours sincerely, [[signature]] PB Young [[/signature]] P.B. YOUNG, Editor-Publisher PBY:LHL
