[[underlined]] Report on the operations in the Archaeological Department of the U.S. National Museum during June, July, August, and September, 1881. [[underlined]]

Mr. E. J. Upham replaced Dr. E. Foreman in June, and I therefore include that month in this report. The entering of specimens was performed by Mr. Upham under my constant supervision. The number of entered specimens amounts to 916; 84 sketches of objects were made.
the more important additions are the following: [[underlined]] Mrs. J. J. Haldeman, Pa. [[underlined]], 154 specs. for exhibition; a tray of arrow-heads and small chipped implements for exchange. The objects are derived from Pennsylvania and Tennessee.
[[underlined]]Dr. S. E. Babcock, S. C.[[underlined]], 26 specs.
[[underlined]]C. S. Grigsby, Tenn.[[underlined]], 43 specs (bought).
[[underlined]]R. Wes Mc. Bride, Ind.,[[underlined]] loaned 9 spec for casting
[[underlined]]H. H. Rusby, N.M.,[[underlined]] 15 specs from a cave near Silver City, N.M.
[[underlined]]G. H. Moran, N.C.,[[underlined]] 44 secs from Camp Thomas, Ariz.
[[underlined]]S. F. Walker, Fla.,[[underlined]] 48 specs from Florida.
[[underlined]]Rob. Ridgway, D.C.,[[underlined]] 16 spec, from Indiana.
[[underlined]]J. G. Henderson, Ill.,[[underlined]] 195 sec, from Naples mounds.
This collection had to be entirely re-arranged, in
order to bring the contents of each mound together.
This work required considerable time.
