[[underlined]]Report on the Operations in the Archaeological
Department of the U.S. National Museum
during October, November, and December, 1881.[[underlined]]
Since October 1st 516 specimens were entered; 41 sketches
made in Record Book, and 59 in Reference Book, with
memoranda from letters relating to them.
The record of casts made at the Smithsonian Institution 
was completed to date, 98 specimens having been recorded
and sketched.  The localities were the originals were found
and the materials of which they consist have been noted.
A list of the casts not on exhibition has been made. These
casts are now arranged in sets, and deposited in draw-
ers and on shelves in the case in room opposite the hall.
Number of specimens recorded in Loan Book 63. These
comprise the copper objects from Wisconsin left by Mr. H.
Beach (8 specs), the collection of flint implements, etc., 
belonging to Pritchett Institute, Glasgow, Missouri,
and the ceremonial weapons from a mound in 
Florida loaned by Mr. A.E. Douglas (8spec).
The Record Books were indexed up to December 15th.
The large vase found near Camp Thomas, Arizona, 
by Dr. G.H. Moran, which arrived in about 100
fragments, has been fully restored.
The mounting of specimens was continued; but not
much could be done, the time being taken up with
other matters.
