Reference was made in the last report to a collection of Mexican antiquities sent by Mr. Ayme, and it was stated that his catalogue had not yet come to hand. All my endeavors to trace the catalogue have thus far been unsuccessful.

A remarkable stone head from Staten Island was sent to the National Museum for examination. A cast was made by Mr. Hendley, and I wait for the return of Mr. Smillie to have it also photographed in half size. A description will be given in the next report.

Five casts of Mr. MacLean's tablet from a mound in Waverly, Pike County, Ohio, were made, and will be sent to him to-day.

In the month of August myself and Mr. Upham were on leave of absence, and consequently no work was done in this Department.
