James E. Knowlton, Damariscotta, Me. 1/2/89.

In hastily going over his collection he found five implements, which [[underlined]]may[[/underlined]] be considered axes, though smaller than sketch (dec. 10). Two of these were found in the gravel banks along the shores of Damariscotta Bay---are of deeply weathered porphyry, called Mt. Keneo flint. Two more are from ancient Indian burying ground.
