[[underlined]] cut 8. [[/underlined]] Exposure at SW. end of crescent of bluffs N. of Hawarden
From top of bluff (ridge) to top of Aftonian 75 ft.
The Kansan appears above. It is weathered, gray, pebbly, but jointed, bluish etc deeper.
It is namely Kansan.
The line between Kansan & Aftonian shows a little mixing & oxidized bands.
The Aftonian has here caused a great slumping but I found a very good section in the undisturbed bank showing position clearly.
The Aftonian is exposed in spots & shows rather coarse sand & small pebbles, layers of fine sand, etc.
Some of the sand is much oxidized. It is the usual Aftonian mixture.
Springs come out at base &

judging from position of these the Aftonian is about 20 ft thick.
A very hard, gray [[strikethrough]] joint [[/strikethrough]] layer rises [[insertion]] (see sample) [[/insertion]] about 4 ft. above the water.
It has brown (plant-like) streaks in it, & may be Nebraskan.
In NE. end of same slump springs come up about 80 ft from top & Aftonian sand crops out here & there below Kansan.
Quite a pond at base of this part of exposure.
Opposite N.E. end, nearer river, blocks (one separated, isolated) of bluish shale appears at 95 ft. from top.
I could not get relation of other strata to it.

[[underlined]] Photos 21 & 22 [[/underlined]] show cut 8 - looking nearly S.
The river is 160 ft. below top of bluff.
Another slump shows farther up river, but overgrown.
