Of the lower sand and gravel (Aftonian) there is a 1 or 2 ft.
Then a foot or more of Kansan & then fine sand, laminated, at least 5 or 6 ft, grading up into yellow loess which farther to S. stand in columnar wall & is at least 12 ft. thick.
The lowest sand which I marked Aftonian is [[strikethrough]] first [[/strikethrough]] mixed & interbanded with Kansan in some places.
The fine sand in the Kansan is very different, fine &

laminated & not ferruginous.
In sags in shale to south the Aftonian is 2 or 3 ft. thick, 1 [[underline]] very [[/underline]] ferruginous.
The sand (upper) in some places comes right to the Aftonian gravel, but a large boulder of granite (2 ft) lies just above thin silt which rests on Aftonian ferruginous gravel.
This silt has valve of Sphaerina in it. - Silt 2-3 in thick

By digging back at boulder I found a thin layer of [[insertion]] ^ what appears to be [[/insertion]] calcareous Kansan. But it is a mixture of Aftonian silt and boulders
The silt band is 2 or 3 ft deep - Laterally it is mixed in places with sand.

Transcription Notes:
ferruginous - a geologic term meaning iron-bearing I'm not sure if the 3rd word from end is 'plane' or 'places'. - Giggles
