The Iowan is yellow, jointed coarse, shading up into soil. A few boulders appear in it some pebbles & occasional little bits (pockets) of sand. The line between drift & Buchanan is very sharp. The Buchanan is here much like very upper weathered, Aftonian , ^ [[insertion]] rather [[/insertion]] faintly stratified, with a few rotten boulders, some small boulders, - & pebbles & sand. There are iron hollow concretions (looking like pebbles), also a little lime. Took sample of drift & gravel. There must be 15-20 ft of gravel. The drift at bottom is typical Kansan, with large boulders (Says Prof. Calvin). Some of the big boulders dropped down from Iowan. [[end page]] [[start page]] 105 Northwestward in pit the Iowan thins out & only the loamy part appearing. But a few big boulders appeared above here.
