Reached Westfield at 3.42 and at once took team & drove to Richland, S. D.
At the point of ridge I found Cretaceous (a soft limestone?) rising about 20 ft. above road, on the E. & S.W. sides of the point.
Drove N. along road over the ridge, and found yellow nodular loess in road cuts as I ascended. I could see not drift.
Return to Westfield, took supper, and left at 6.40 P.M. for Hawarden
Put up at depot (C. & 
NW) hotel, called on Stone's

Left Harwarden at 3:30 AM via the new C&NW. cut off.
Reached Onawa at 7 -

Drove to Turin. Visited Babcock's & Mathieson's
pit lot of bones & teeth
Took photos of hills with one [[collumned?]]

Visited pit - 
There were show about:
Loess - 4-6 ft.
Kansan - 1-5 ft.
Gravel & Sand 2-4 ft.
Cross-bedded yellow sand - about 10-12 ft?
Then white sand 4-6 ft layer of silt & below it mostly sand & gravel - about 4-10 in. (silt about 1 in)
Below that white sand 3 ft.
But at S. end gravel at base - from this gravel came bones.
