The section on N. side in as follows: [[image - pencil sketch of rock strata showing 5 distinct layers]] [[image captions]] 5 6-8 ft yellow joint clay - where weathered, loess like. 4 6-8 ft Laminated sand - yellow - with streaks of coarser grains - Probably water lain - through not unlike [[wind?]]. But horizontal 3 Bluish silt, 1-2 ft. 2 (a) Dark colored stuff, finer above 3-4 ft (b) shades down into next 1 Red joint clay with pebbles scattered 8-10 ft. [[/image captions]] [[line across page]] See samples of all. No. 1 is very red & shows joint structure & few pebbles. No. 2 - grades into 1 & above is finer. Line between it & (3) is sharp. No. 3 has oxidized line above & below. No. 4 - shows lamination where weathered [[end page]] [[start page]] 175 There seem to be no real loess here - too jointy On S. side cut is similar except that 1, 2, 3 are obscured by talus. At E. [[overwritten over illegible words]] end a gutter cuts down & exposes - low down dark Nebraskan ? (or is it Kansan? see sample), above it Aftonian sand & gravel & above that Kansan. Then Illinoian & then to west silt etc. The Kansan, Aft. & Neb are below RR. which here run high. Took sample of Kansan? Spring runs out below Kansan.
