[[insertion]] Cut 34 [[/insertion]]  Near SW. cor. sec. 6, Jackson Twp. on down hill yellow loess shows above, blue loess below & drift near base.
Cut not distinct, most of it about 4-5 ft. deep.
At Rabbit Hollow found [[Corlilicoba?]] feeding on Disco.
I collected shells in Rabbit Hollow on a wooded bank, rather low down.
At Bowman's Grove I collected shells (under leaves as above) in upland woods.
[[insertion]] On N. side NE. 1/4 -34-80-38 yellow loess appears in road cut. (Marked on map.)
On slope facing N. on E. side SE 1/4 NE 1/4 - sec 4-79-38 cut shows yellow loess. (Marked on map). Kansan shows along road at S.E. cor of [[road?]] shows Kansan 44 (see map). [[/insertion]]
On return the intersection of wagon road & C.Gr.W. RR. near Baughn's brickyard = 1220

The cut between the [[insertion]] ^ SW. [[/insertion]] corner of sec. 20, Centre Twp. & the foot of hill runs 5-6 ft. deep and shows yellow loess in upper 1/2.
This is brownish, with gray streaks & quite a number of rounded nodules (see samples). Shells few.
The lower half of hill shows drift, separated from loess by a gray band (not over 1 or 2 ft. probably) with iron tubules, but mucky & hard.
* [[line indicating insertion]] Aug. 26 looked at this again & dug in bank. Good gray loess is at least 2 or 3 ft thick, possibly more, & muck is only at very base. [[/insertion]]
High place E. 1318.
Hazel & scrub bur oak appear here along the road.  Also fine strip of upland prairie with following:
