are singularly devoid of shells.

[[insertion]] [[underlined]] Cut 74 [[/underlined]] [[/insertion]]
Cut F is over line S. about 12 ft deep.
The loess is heavy , gray, with many dark shots & streaks & also reddish streaks (all of iron), & a few nodules.
Below it becomes very gray with a few large tubes, & few fragments of fossil shells
In the 1/2 & 1/2 place there are shells - 6 ft. from [[ground?]] & up. See samples. The latter [[overwonder?]] yellow.
All this (almost) appears to be gray.
[[underlined]] Cut 75 [[/underlined]] also shows gray loess [[insertion]] ^ similar to 74 but smaller. [[/insertion]]
[[underlined]] Cut 76 [[/underlined]] was just being cut & showed only yellow loess.
It is 4-5 ft deep. Contrast with [[underlined]] 74 [[/underlined]] is strong.
