quite abruptly upward into a heavy drift like stuff (see sample)
The red color of both shows little differentiation, but the transition is quite abrupt.
There must be at least 6 ft. of this red drift & then it grades into at least 6 ft. [[layer?]] of red muck. On top of hill there is gray loess.
The base of the sand & gravel layer = 1307 
Under the sand there is a layer of heavy blue black stuff similar to Nebraskan. [[insertion]] It is Nebraskan ?
Its top = 1313
Water in river bank = 1290

Water runs out above this layer from sand along the exposure 
The water in river is about 8 ft. below top of bank

1299 = road is on way to Redfield
1380 = Redfield's hill - road

[[insertion]] [[underlined]] Cut 3 [[/underlined]] [[/insertion]]
Redfield cut - About 12 ft. exposed. Base about 4 above natural bottom & the latter is about 8 ft. above river.

a = yellow loess with [[overwritten]] blue [[/overwritten]] grayish mottlings, compact with same nodules & shell scatered all through all through.  See spec.
