On S. side at height of 16 ft above track gray loess stops, with oxidized streak and passes quickly into a yellow fossiliferous loam which stands vertically on both sides.
Medium rounded nodules are scattered all through.
Collected shells opposite pole 6,
Took samples - yellow at 5 ft above base. Gray 1 ft below its top.
Took nodules from yellow.
The line is quite sharp, the oxidized belt ending abruptly below, & joining gray loess.

This is cut across long ridge, which doesn't seem to run out either way.

At Pole 3 - an oxidized band runs below uniform - 2 1/2 - 6 ft. as shown
Took samples- yellow 2 ft. from top; gray - 7 ft. from top.
The yellow is lumpy, brownish. The gray has many iron tubes & lots of nodules. Shells occur, but not plentiful. In gray only.
Collected fossils scattered all through gray loess in its upper 5-7 ft. between poles 3 & 4
I could trace the gray loess for 10 or 12 ft. down & then talus covered it.
