On N. line of line on sec. 10 - the hill to river [[flows?]] W.  It shows yellow loess at top & on slope loose sand;  then still lower a rusty compacted sand & gravel.  This is very rusty.
Below it a gray heavy drift extends down towards base. 
Stopped at Brown's Restaurant at Kirkman & fed at Livery barn.

Took lunch at Brown's Restaurant (35 cts each) & fed horse at livery = 25 cents.

Drove south and then west to opposite N. end of Bowman's grove.

Above Bowman's Grove there is almost no timber.

A great, deep gully in SW cor. of sec. 29-80-37.
shows a [[below?]] gray heavy muck at base, & water seeps out above - (7-8 ft above) - Dark etc boulders are scattered along bottom of gully.
This must be 40 or more feet deep.  Heavily timbered.  Streams NW cor. of 32-80-37.

Saw black cherry, Rhamnus, Green ash, Ulmus fulva, pignut, [[Laurel?]], Hazel, plum, box elder, Walnut, bur oak, [[M?]] [[ap?]], [[Guirlax?]] [[?]], Crataegus mollis, [[?]] Hackberry, [[Ratis?]] grande
