On lower ground, 25 or 30 ft. He has dug from Guthrie Co. to Shelby.
[[insertion]] Cut 19 [[/insertion]] Near SW. cor. SW. SE 2-80 36 a slope facing E shows drift well up, then a band of gray loess, about 1 ft:, with iron tubes, & then a cap of yellow - thin.

[[insertion]] Cut 20 [[/insertion]] N. of SW cor. of sec. 2-80-36 a rather sharp ridge extends to west.  Its S. side shows only yellow loess.  Top = 1738  The N. slope is quite steep. 
At very top a fine yellow sand (some of it with small nodules) caps the ridge
About 10 ft from top yellow loess is at surface, & at 12-14 ft a very distinct layer of gray loess with tubes.

Took sample of sandy part from top & yellow loess 10 ft below top. Below gray loess is a clayey reddish [[ferrelto?]], & Kansan drift below that
1659 = foot of hill N.
Down along road fine sand is based out.  From Kansan?

At Sharer's, in kitchen reading = 1720 at 9 PM.
