July 7 Saturday.
This afternoon there was an unusual commotion among some White-breasted Nuthatches by Mrs. Pettey's
Watched them. They were courting. The males went around with wings and tail spread calling [[underlined]] sil-a-enk-kwee kwee kwee. [[/underlined]] They were very pretty.

July 9, Monday
Found a Brown Thrasher's nest in M. Maine's woods this morning. It contained 3 eggs. One was larger

and had less spots than the others. The nest was in a thicket of prickly ash and was about 4 feet from the ground.

July 11 Wednesday
Our family and several friends went camping on the Wisconsin River near Kilbourn.
Jim Suley, father and I started about 6:30 in the carriage.
Saw numbers of Vesper Sparrows between Fullmer's and Dickie's
