If you secure the Allen collection for me please issue my check in payment and have the pottery sent to Stephen who will know how to store it seperately from the other things already catalogued.
The changes going on in Japan are terrible - [[underlined]] everything [[/underlined]] is being europeanized! Were it not for my study here I would leave Tokio tonight and get off to the country where a trace, at least, of Japan's tradition may still cling. Here it's completely buried. How much the world has lost no one here cares or appreciates. If life were wholly practical I would not murmur, but fortunately or, possibly, unfortunately under the new conditions, in every life spaces of leisure happen. Now, how will the Japanese make beautiful and agreeable these spaces hereafter?

[[marginalia left]] With most cordial greetings to all - Yours very sincerely,
Charles L Freer [[/marginalia left]]
