Dear Colonel Hecker,
     I have your good letter of April 16th and cablegram announcing my election to the chairmanship of the Yondotega and Phil's place on the Board of Governors.  I wish that some one more competent and a better club man might have been chosen to succeed Will, but the honor given me is deeply appreciated and I shall act until some one better equiped can be found.  
I am particularly glad that Phil accepted a place on the Board.  I wired you expressing my acknowledgment of the election and asking you to "set up the bottles" which I have no doubt received the attention of the members.
I am glad, too, that Mr. Ryan was made President of P. D & Co - He is young, able and progressive and if given proper assistance in the various departments, as he doubtless will, he will surely advance the firm.  Mr. Hargraves should be given greater power
