by the Secretary to some Chemical gentlemen who did not pretend to archaeological knowledge, and they reported against it and the matter was dropped. Mr. Clarence B. Moore of Philadelphia has taken it up during the year, working somewhat on material from our Museum, and has published a monograph on the subject, showing if he does nothing more, the possibilities of the investigation, the opinion of the aforesaid gentlemen to the contrary notwithstanding. Mr. Moore's paper is only partial, and, if permitted, I could do [[insert]] some [[/insert]] valuable work in completing the investigation.

I have also written a somewhat elaborate paper, pp. on the subject of Evidence applied to Archaeology, which can be utilized for any publication the Assistant Secretary may desire.
