Curators Reports file Living Animals Aug. 1888. W T Hornaday [[preprinted]] SMITHSONIAN INSTITUTION UNITED STATES NATIONAL MUSEUM S. P. LANGLEY, Secretary G. BROWN GOODE, Assistant Secretary, in charge of U. S. NATIONAL MUSEUM [[/preprinted]] [[preprinted]] Washington, [[/preprinted]] Sept 1, [[preprinted]] 188 [[/preprinted]] 8 Prof G. Brown Goode. Assistant Secretary In charge of the National Museum. Sir:- I have the honor to submit the following report for the Collection of Living Animals for the Month of August:- The accessions during the month amounted to a total of 16 specimens, representing 11 species, 5 of which were new to the collection. All these accessions were received as gifts. The most valuable specimen was a fine young gray wolf, ([[underlined]] Canis lupus griseo-albus [[/underlined]]), from Mr C. A. Dole. of Glendive, Montana. I enclose a complete list of accessions for the month. Owing to the pressure of business in connection with the plan for a Zoological Park, combined with work on my paper on the Extermination of the Bison, I have been compelled to forego the attention to the menagerie that I would otherwise have gladly devoted to it. There are many improvements to be made at the earliest possible moment. Respectfully submitted. W T Hornaday. Curator.
