Quite a number of the birds and mammals are young,and all such require to be fed from three to five times daily,on food specially adapted to their respective wants. With the exception of the reptiles^[[,]]each species in the entire collection has been labeled, and although in the beginning the curator made a determined effort to exhibit with each mammalian species a map showing its geographical distribution, the rapid increase in the size and importance of[[striekthrough]] e [[/strikethrough]] the collection overwhelmed him with more imperative duties,and it was found impossible to carry out that plan at present. During the last four months of the fiscal year^[[,]]only four specimens were purchased,and it required diligent exertions to provide proper accommodations for the gifts that came in from day to day.
