[[stamped]] Report for 1894 [[/stamped]]

1. HOW HAS THE FISCAL YEAR ENDING JUNE 30, 1894 COMPARED WITH THE PREVIOUS YEAR, AS FAR AS (1) THE NUMBER OF ACCESSIONS AND (2) THEIR SCIENTIFIC VALUE ARE CONCERNED.
[[line]]

[[handwritten]] (1.) The number of accessions compares favorably with that of the preceding year and the number of specimens received has been much larger. This was due principally to the activity of Dr. E.A Mearns & his assistant, Mr. Holzner on the Mexican boundary - There were in all 47 contributors, of which 45 were individuals - Of the individuals, 26 presented more than one specimen and 19 one specimen each. Of the two institutions, one ( Natl. Zool. Park) gave 35 specimens & the other only one specimen.

It is to be observed that no material was received from the various departments & bureaus of the Government ^(except the Natl. Zool. Park), a very different condition from that which existed in former years. Though Dr. Mearns was connected with the Internatl. Boundary Commission (U.S. and Mexico) his work in natural history was not official.

(2.) The scientific value of the sessions is not easily estimated, but it may be said that among the specimens were a considerable number of rarities and representatives of at least three species previously unknown. [[/handwritten]]
