[[encircled]]19 [[/encircled]]Visited the Botanical Gardens. They are small but well laid out with the plants + trees all named + localities given. A fine method of showing HongKong native trees + bushes is followed here. The foreign trees are few, Chinese trees being  chiefly shown. There were Cunningham's or Spruce, Liquidamber, + many unfamiliar Chinese trees + bushes. The Chinese yew, Podocarpus was seen here. Several days ago we met Mr. P. W. Goldring, a lawyer in town who has visited Yunnan. He generously gave us an account of his experiences + loaned us books, notes, etc. for our trip.
