For leprosy Bradly uses X-rays and an old oil remedy. (26) Reached [[strikethrough]] Haifo of [[/strikethrough]] Haiphong at 1 P.M. At daylight we were off a very broken coast where hundreds of jagged rocks could be seen raising their fantastic shapes. At noon we took on a pilot at the mouth of the Red River & steamed for about an hour up the river. The land here is a broad level plain without mountains & the banks are low & brigh green with grass & herbs. Forest is not noticable to any degree. The river was very muddy & brownish red by silt. When we dropped anchor in the river opposite the town a swarm of boatmen with their sampans boarded us clamoring for baggage. We finally got into a row with them after they had dropped overboard a heavy box of ammunition. This box was afterward recovered by a diver & the cartridges dried in the engine room.
