We went to the Hotel Terminus near the station & took rooms. An Englishman stopping here, Moore-Bennitt, a surveyor gave us much information about Yun-nan which he knows very well from his surveys. Andrews had an abscess on his right arm which was much swollen so we went at once, at 5:30 in search of Dr. Thompson with Ray Pilsen of the Y.M.C.A. as guide. The doctor was out so we went to Carpenter's tennis court where we met Collins of the Y.M.C.A. & Gough, the British Consul.

(2) Visited McBode, the salt commissioner at his office. He had just returned from Tali-fu & gave us much information about the country. Later called on Mengle [[strikethrough]] Ronden [[/strikethrough]], the telegraph chief who also knows Yunnan & its game animals. Went to Dr. Thompsons [[fortilfin?]] where we met his wife & 2 small children.
